BMET of the Year Nomination

In order to recognize individuals who have contributed significantly to the field of Biomedical Engineering, the Virginia Biomedical Association's board of directors chooses a "BMET of the Year" at each annual meeting. This person is chosen from nominees submitted by VBA members. If you know a Biomed who deserves this recognition, please send in your nomination. The "Biomed of the Year " will be chosen at the annual meeting and will receive a plaque and a check for $500.00, as well as recognition for a job well done. Nominations will be received up to two weeks before the annual meeting.

Judging Criterion:

BMET of the year will be chosen based on the nominees' activities in the following areas. Judging will be based on a points system that is weighted by the percentages shown for each area in the table below.

50% Professional Achievement
  • new innovations
  • patents
  • recent formal education
  • published articles & papers
  • peer recognition
  • professional organization memberships
  • certifications
  • years in profession
  • other related activity
25% Leadership
  • development of the profession
  • project leadership within organizations
  • mentorship roles & peer training
  • professional references by administration & customers
  • other related activity
15% Continuing Education
  • service schools
  • on the job training
  • day courses by facility & organizations
  • familiarization with codes & standards
  • other related activity
10% Civic Involvement
  • organizational involvement (boy scouts, coaching, Elks etc)
  • volunteerism (fire dept, EMS etc)
  • leadership roles (town council, board of education etc)
  • other related activity

Rules:

  1. Explain in 250 words or less why your nominee should receive the BMET of the Year award.
  2. Please include your nominee's job title, employer and work location.
  3. VBA Directors and officers are not eligible for nomination.
  4. A discussion with the nominee’s immediate supervisor may be held to determine if nominee is in good standing and has exhibited the traits listed.
  5. See the annual meeting page for the current deadline.
  6. The winning nominee will be announced at the annual meeting
  7. The award receipient will receive a plaque and a $500.00 cash prize.
